Arion Press Bindery Positions

We are seeking both 1. an experienced bookbinder and, 2. candidates for the bookbinding apprenticeship.

Pay and terms for experienced applicants will be discussed.

For apprenticeships: Commitment is for a minimum of two years, with an opportunity for long-term employment. Apprentices will learn fine edition bookbinding through intensive on-the-job training.

Apprenticeship: Full-time work and training for a minimum of two years, starting pay at $13.00 per hour for a forty-hour week, health benefits through Kaiser, paid holidays, one week (5 days) paid vacation during the first year, two weeks (10 days) paid vacation starting the second year. There is a three-month probationary period, after which the wage rises to $14.00 per hour.

General Qualifications: Candidates must have at least a high school education (college degree preferred), proficiency in grammar, spelling, and arithmetic, and mechanical aptitude. The work is physically demanding and repetitive; candidates must be able to stand for 8 hours, and lift and carry 25 pounds.
