ATF 2018 Program

40 Years of ATF: Continuing the Tradition

Welcome to the fortieth anniversary conference of the American Typecasting Fellowship. A lot has changed from back when this group first met in Terra Alta, WV, in 1978. One of the biggest topics back then was where to find equipment and what to look out for. There still were plenty of shops in their final stages willing to sell equipment at bargain-basement prices to whomever was interested.

These days our focus is more on running and maintaining the equipment we are lucky enough to have. That said, there’s still great opportunity at an ATF Conference to talk about what you have, what you want, and how to fix it. All along ATF’s strongest emphasis has been on USING equipment—not just collecting it so it can sit in the garage gathering dust. This year’s meeting at M&H will provide the greatest possible opportunity for you to view equipment, see it running, and talk at length to people who know how to maintain and run the equipment.

Nowhere else in the world will you have such an opportunity to be in the presence of so many individuals experienced in the craft—and delighted to talk about it. So roll up your sleeves, open your ears, and lets get casting! There’s no better way for us all to buy into our unofficial slogan: “Continuing the tradition.”
