Professor Barnes’ original scholarship provided the necessary basis for this first edition of Golding’s 400-year-old translation. Gheeraerts’ early, rare etchings appeared in French and Latin editions of Mythologia ethica in the sixteenth century, and all 125 now join this first English edition in the twentieth.
