David Mamet wrote a new foreword for this edition, which divulges his inspiration for the play as a long-running poker game in a junk shop in Chicago. Michael McCurdy was the founder of Penmaen Press (1968-1985) as well as a prolific book illustrator, known for his skill as a wood engraver.
