Set in a comfortable middle-class Midwestern family in the decades before World War II, Mrs. Bridge is experimental in form while addressing eternal themes of loneliness, repression, conventionality, and personal limitations.

This edition includes 68 photographs by Laurie Simmons, who uses photography to explore the domestic sphere. In the 1970s she used dolls and dollhouse walls, furniture, and fixtures to stage photographs. The resulting images appear nostalgic for a classic “American” home and lifestyle, but simultaneously feel empty and confining for the figures within.
